Great Progress Being Made in Reducing Demolition & Construction Waste

According to DEFRA, the total quantity of both household and municipal waste produced in the UK has decreased by just over 1.5% since 2008, with recycling going up and the quantity of waste going to landfill going down. However, the construction and demolition sector is still the largest producer of waste in the UK, producing about 120 million tonnes a year.

In order to try and counter this, a ‘waste hierachy’ is now a well recognised approach of the industry to design, build and manage waste in order to meet government targets and contribute to sustainability.
